Everyone deserves care, support and protection from danger, but sometimes things go wrong. Neglect is the failure to meet a child or vulnerable adult’s basic needs, and it’s a serious problem. Neglect often goes unnoticed but is actually very common. Vulnerable people can also neglect themselves and make decisions that aren’t in their best interests. It’s really important to recognise the risks and warning signs of neglect and help to protect people from harm.

Who is this course for

This course, one of several in our safeguarding basics in schools collection, will help those working with or supporting children and vulnerable adults to explain the different types of neglect and how they impact those who experience them. It will help you to identify the risk factors that can compound neglect. And it will help you to recognise some of the key warning signs of neglect, so you know when to act.
